Search for Supersymmetry in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV in Events With a Single Lepton, Jets, and Missing Transverse Momentum
    (Springer, 2013) Chatrchyan, S.; Khachatryan, V.; Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Aguilo, E.; Swanson, J.
Results are reported from a search for new physics processes in events containing a single isolated high-transverse-momentum lepton (electron or muon), energetic jets, and large missing transverse momentum. The analysis is based on a 4.98 fb(-1) sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, obtained with the CMS detector at the LHC. Three separate background estimation methods, each relying primarily on control samples in the data, are applied to a range of signal regions, providing complementary approaches for estimating the background yields. The observed yields are consistent with the predicted standard model backgrounds. The results are interpreted in terms of limits on the parameter space for the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, as well as on cross sections for simplified models, which provide a generic description of the production and decay of new particles in specific, topology based final states.

Enhancing Multiview 3d Reconstruction Using Polarization Imaging
(IEEE Computer Society, 2014) Ozan, S.; Gumustekin, S.
Performance of stereo imaging methods, which are used to find depth information of a scene, can be adversely affected by surface reflection properties of subjects in the scene and possible change in relative camera and light source positions. In this study a catadioptric multiview imaging system, which is constructed by using planar mirrors, is proposed. Stereo matching problems which are caused by the specular reflections in the scene are highlighted and it is shown that those problems can be significantly alleviated by using polarization images. © 2014 IEEE.

Measurement of the WZ Production Cross Section in pp Collisions at S=13 TeV
    (Elsevier, 2017) Khachatryan, V.; Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Woods, N.
The WZ production cross section in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 Tev is measured with the CMS experiment at the LHC using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb(-1). The measurement is performed in the leptonic decay modes WZ -> lVl'l', where l,l'=e,mu. The measured cross section for the range 60<m (l'l') <120 GeV is sigma(pp -> WZ) = 39.9 +/- 3.2(stat)(2.9)(-3.1)(syst)+/- 0.4(theo)+/- 1.3(lumi)pb, consistent with the standard model prediction.

A News Chain Evaluation Methodology Along With a Lattice-Based Approach for News Chain Construction
(Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), 2017) Toprak, Mustafa; Özkahraman,Ö.; Tekir, Selma
Chain construction is an important requirement for understanding news and establishing the context. A news chain can be defined as a coherent set of articles that explains an event or a story. There's a lack of well-established methods in this area. In this work, we propose a methodology to evaluate the "goodness" of a given news chain and implement a concept latticebased news chain construction method by Hossain et al. The methodology part is vital as it directly affects the growth of research in this area. Our proposed methodology consists of collected news chains from different studies and two "goodness" metrics, minedge and dispersion coefficient respectively. We assess the utility of the lattice-based news chain construction method by our proposed methodology. © EMNLP 2017.All right reserved.

    (Sidas Medya A.S., 2019) Özer,M.; Özyurt,G.; Harsa,Ş.T.
People have been started to consume functional foods that promote health with changing nutritional dynamics all over the world. Psychological signs such as level of daily stress and emotional changes affect the microbiota negatively. Neuropsychiatric disorders cause irregular release of neurotransmitters like gamma-aminobutyric acid; therefore, functional food ingredients can be used as therapeutic agents. The purpose of this study is to review the positive impacts of prebiotics, and probiotics, and functional foods containing these ingredients on the gut-brain axis through the health of microbiota. The definition of probiotics and prebiotics and their neurotransmitters secreted, the effects on neuropsychological health, the role of intestinal metabolic disorders in the formation of neuropsychiatric diseases, the importance of gut-brain axis on this mechanism are presented in the light of scientific researches and current literature. In this study, the contribution of food biosciences into this interdisciplinary area is highlighted. © 2019 Authors. All rights reserved.

Assessment of Sediment Capture Performances of Coanda and Tyrolean Intakes by Experiments
(International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research, 2019) Elçi,S.; Hazar,O.
Intake structures on channels or in reservoirs are frequently used to divert/withdraw a certain amount of water discharge for various purposes of use such as irrigation, potable water supply and generation of hydroelectric power. Hydrologic, geotechnical, topographic and climatic factors directly affect the type of the intake structures which will be constructed. Factors such as excessive rain or snow melt and greater river bed slope which can be cause of high flow rate make impossible to use of the frontal and lateral intake structures. When water has to be diverted from a turbid source having great amount of suspended materials in it, bottom intakes structure such as Coanda and Tyrolean types are preferred. To perform this task, diverted water is captured by a transversal rack and a gallery located in the control crest is utilized. With a proper design of the intake, the quality of the diverted water can be increased by screening out most of the sediments in the flow. Previous studies on the bottom intake structures, presented empirical equations based on experiments relating the diverted water amount per unit width to hydraulic head, discharge coefficient and void ratio of the bar clearance to the total length. Most studies focused on the discharge coefficient and the parameters affecting this coefficient such as hydraulic and rack characteristics. Presented study focused on the sediment capture performances of these two specific type intake structures though experimental work. A novel sediment feeding system designed specifically for this study is utilized in the experiments. Study results pointed out a new parameter including sediment characteristics, as well as rack and hydraulic characteristics should be considered for a proper design of Tyrolean and Coanda type intakes. © 2019, IAHR.

Optimum Design of Anti-Buckling Behavior of Graphite/Epoxy Laminated Composites by Differential Evolution and Simulated Annealing Method
    (MIM RESEARCH GROUP, 2019) Akçair,M.; Savran,M.; Aydın,L.; Ayakdaş,O.; Öztürk,S.; Küçükdoğan,N.
Stacking sequence design and optimization of 64 layered symmetric-balance graphite/epoxy laminated composite have been performed. The optimization problems aim to find the optimum stacking sequence maximizing the critical buckling load by single objective optimization approach. Differential Evolution (DE) and Simulated Annealing (SA) optimization algorithms are proposed to solve the problems. The effect of the aspect ratios (a/b) and in-plane biaxial compressive loading ratios (Nx/Ny) on critical buckling load are investigated. In order to see the effect of discrete increments of fiber orientation angle on critical buckling load, 1°, 5°, 15°, 30° and 45° fiber angle increments are also considered. The results show that (i) the proposed algorithms DE and SA exhibit comparable performance in terms of critical buckling load when compared Genetic algorithm (GA) and Generalized pattern search algorithm (GPSA), (ii) DE and SA find distinct stacking sequence configurations in terms of buckling load for the same laminated structure design problems. © 2019 MIM Research Group. Optimal Design of the Type Iii Hydrogen Storage Tank for Different Carbon/Epoxy Materials by Modified Differential Evolution Method
    (MIM RESEARCH GROUP, 2019) Ayakdaş,O.; Aydın,L.; Savran,M.; Küçükdoğan,N.; Öztürk,S.
In this study, the main objective is to minimize the failure index of a cylindrical laminated composite hydrogen storage tank under internal pressure. The first step is to obtain the distribution of stress components based on Classical Laminated Plate Theory (CLPT). The second is to evaluate the burst pressure of the tank according to three different first ply failure criteria and then to compare the results with the experimental and numerical ones from literature. In the final part of the study, the best possible combination of winding angles, stacking sequences and thicknesses of laminates satisfying minimum possible stress concentration will be obtained for different Carbon/Epoxy materials by Differential Evolution Method. The stress components and, the burst pressures reached according to Hashin-Rotem, Maximum Stress, and Tsai-Wu first-ply failure criteria, have been complied with experimental and numerical results in the literature for Type III pressure vessels. Manufacturable Type-III tank designs have been proposed satisfying the 35 MPa burst pressure for different Carbon/Epoxy materials. © 2019 MIM Research Group. All rights reserved.

Angular Analysis of the Decay B+ → K+μ+μ- in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=8 TeV
    (Amer Physical Soc, 2018) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Woods, N.
The angular distribution of the flavor-changing neutral current decay B+ -> K+mu(+)mu(-) is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The analysis is based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.5 fb(-1). The forward-backward asymmetry A(FB) of the dimuon system and the contribution F-H from the pseudoscalar, scalar, and tensor amplitudes to the decay width are measured as a function of the dimuon mass squared. The measurements are consistent with the standard model expectations.

Electrospraying of Zein for the Preparation of Micro/Nano-particles Loaded With Sarcopoterium Spinosum Extract
    (AMG Transcend Association, 2019) Süngüc,C.; Erdogan,İ.; Uslu,M.E.; Bayraktar,O.
Natural compounds that are isolated from various plant species have been the focus of folk medicine due to their bioactivities. Pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries also utilize these natural compounds with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Harsh processing and storage conditions causing loss of their bioactivities limit their applications. Therefore, biopolymeric carrier systems are required to preserve the natural bioactive compounds stability. Sarcopoterium spinosum is used in folkloric medicine for curing diabetes, gastrointestinal illnesses, cancer and pain. In this study, both solution and process parameters for electrospraying technique were investigated to encapsulate S. spinosum extract including natural bioactive compounds in zein particles. The best results were observed in 5% (w/v) of zein concentration in 70% aqueous ethanol. 0.3 ml/hour flow rate and 14 kV applied voltage were used in order to obtain narrow size distributionorbicular and smooth particle structure. The best mixture of S. spinosum extract and zein was achieved at weight ratio of 1:5. The zein microparticles with extract showed remarkable antioxidant activity. © 2019, AMG Transcend Association.
