The Resilience of Massive Mimo Pnc To Jamming Attacks in Vehicular Networks
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) Okyere, Bismark; Musavian, Leila; Özbek, Berna; Busari, Sherif A.; Gonzalez, Jonathan
In this article, we investigate the resilience of Massive MIMO Physical Layer Network Coding (PNC) to jamming attack in both sub-6 GHz and millimeter-Wave (mmWave) systems in vehicular networks. Massive MIMO generally is resilient to jamming attacks, and we investigate the impact that PNC has on this resilience, if combined with Massive MIMO. The combination of Massive MIMO and PNC has shown a significant improvement in the bit error rate (BER) in our previous investigation. The corresponding framework is analysed against a barraging attack from a jammer, where the jamming channel is not known to the base station (BS), and the jammer can use any number of transmit antennas. Over Rayleigh channel, our simulation results reveal that Massive MIMO PNC performs better in the lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regions to jamming attacks and this is achieved at twice the spectral efficiency. A similar performance is observed over mmWave channel.

Design and Implementation of Spatial Correlation-Based Clustering for Multiuser Miso-Noma Systems
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) Göztepe, Caner; Özbek, Berna; Karabulut Kurt, Güneş
In this letter, we propose a novel user clustering algorithm for downlink multiuser multiple-input single-output (MISO) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems along with its implementation in a real-time testing environment. The proposed method selects the clusters by considering users' spatial channel properties against the generated orthogonal directions. This is then followed by power allocation and zero-forcing precoding steps to mitigate the interference between the selected clusters. Performance comparisons are provided in terms of both real-time tests and simulations. It is demonstrated that a notable improvement in capacity and reliability can be obtained through the proposed approach in multiuser MISO-NOMA systems with reduced complexity.

Coverage Analysis of Physical Layer Network Coding in Massive Mimo Systems
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) İlgüy, Mert; Özbek, Berna; Mumtaz, Rao; Busari, Sherif A.; Gonzalez, Jonathan
Wireless networks are prone to interference due to their broadcast nature. In the design of most of the traditional networks, this broadcast nature is perceived as a performance-degrading factor. However, Physical Layer Network Coding (PNC) exploits this broadcast nature by enabling simultaneous transmissions from different sources and thereby enhances the performance of the wireless networks with respect to improvement in spectral efficiency, coverage, latency and security of the system. For fifth generation (5G) networks and beyond, massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) is considered as a key physical layer technology. Thus, its combination with PNC can significantly enhance the performance of the network, facilitating capacity-coverage improvement, among other benefits. While the bit error rate performance of multiuser massive MIMO-PNC systems through linear detection has been investigated extensively, their coverage probability for a given target signal-to-noise ratio has not been explored yet. In this paper, we derive a closed form expression for coverage probability in PNC based multiuser massive MIMO systems employing zero-forcing equalization. Both theoretical and simulation results are provided for different number of users and antennas in the multiuser massive MIMO-PNC communications systems.

User Selection for Noma Based Mimo With Physical Layer Network Coding in Internet of Things Applications
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2022) Yılmaz, Saadet Simay; Özbek, Berna; İlgüy, Mert; Okyere, Bismark; Musavian, Leila; Gonzalez, Jonathan
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), which has the potential to provide both massive connectivity and high spectrum efficiency, is considered as one of the efficient techniques for sixth generation (6G) wireless systems. In massive Internet of Things (IoT) networks, user-set selection is crucial for enhancing the overall performance of NOMA based systems when compared with orthogonal multiple access (OMA) techniques. In this paper, we propose a user-set selection algorithm for IoT uplink transmission to improve the sum data rate of the NOMA based MIMO systems. In order to exchange data between the selected IoT pairs, we propose to employ wireless physical layer network coding (PNC) to further improve the spectral efficiency and reduce the delay to fulfill the requirements of future IoT applications. Performance evaluations are provided based on both sum data rate and bit error rate for the proposed NOMA based MIMO with PNC in the considered massive IoT scenarios. IEEE

Self-Adjusting Fuzzy Logic Based Control of Robot Manipulators in Task Space
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) Yılmaz, Bayram Melih; Tatlıcıoğlu, Enver; Savran, Aydoğan; Alcı, Musa
End effector tracking control of robot manipulators subject to dynamical uncertainties is the main objective of this work. Direct task space control that aims minimizing the end effector tracking error directly is preferred. In the open loop error system, the vector that depends on uncertain dynamical terms is modeled via a fuzzy logic network and a self-adjusting adaptive fuzzy logic component is designed as part of the nonlinear proportional derivative based control input torque. The stability of the closed loop system is investigated via Lyapunov based arguments and practical tracking is proven. The viability of the proposed control strategy is shown with experimental results. Extensions to uncertain Jacobian case and kinematically redundant robots are also presented. IEEE

A Novel Joint Index Modulation and Physical Layer Network Coding Mechanism for Beyond 5g
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) Okyere, Bismark; Musavian, Leila; Özbek, Berna; Busari, Sherif A.; Gonzalez, Jonathan
In beyond 5G communications, besides energy efficiency (EE) and spectral efficiency (SE), latency and reliability are among the main metrics that extreme ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC) applications must fulfill. Although new techniques are sought after to meet the crunching requirements of URLLC, combining existing phys-ical-layer techniques have become a compelling, attractive, and cost saving approach to achieving the same goal. In this article, we describe a novel mechanism combining physical layer network coding (PNC) and index modulation (IM) to achieve a balance between SE and EE for URLLC applications beyond 5G. PNC has the potential to increase SE because it leverages on interference from many transmissions occurring at the same time. Although fewer resources are required for IM the capacity gain is the same as if all transmission resources are used, and as a result, both EE and SE can increase simultaneously. Our simulation results show the feasibility of combining these two key physical-lay-er techniques, affirming the complementary role this approach will play in meeting the performance KPIs of URLLC beyond 5G. © 2017 IEEE.

A Droplet-Based Signal Reconstruction Approach To Channel Modeling in Molecular Communication
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) Güleç, Fatih; Atakan, Barış
In this paper, a novel droplet-based signal reconstruction (SR) approach to channel modeling, which considers liquid droplets as information carriers instead of molecules in the molecular communication (MC) channel, is proposed for practical sprayer-based macroscale MC systems. These practical MC systems are significant, since they can be used in order to investigate airborne pathogen transmission with biological sensors due to the similar mechanisms of sneezing/coughing and sprayer. Our proposed approach takes a two-phase flow which is generated by the interaction of droplets in liquid phase with air molecules in gas phase into account. Two-phase flow is combined with the SR of the receiver (RX) to propose a channel model. The SR part of the model quantifies how the accuracy of the sensed molecular signal in its reception volume depends on the sensitivity response of the RX and the adhesion/detachment process of droplets. The proposed channel model is validated by employing experimental data. IEEE

In this paper, image-based regulation control of a robot manipulator with an uncalibrated vision system is discussed. To compensate for the unknown camera calibration parameters, a novel prediction error formulation is presented. To achieve the control objectives, a Lyapunov-based adaptive control strategy is employed. The control development for the camera-in-hand problem is presented in detail and a fixed-camera problem is included as an extension.

All-Optical Switching Based on Grating Written Photorefractive Slab/Fiber Waveguide Coupler
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2002) Dinleyici, Mehmet Salih
Since all optical switching is a key element for all kinds of optical networks, great amount of works have been dedicated either for material researches or various waveguide structures. Generally speaking the switching time of devices based on photorefractive effect are rather slow for today's high capacity optical fiber networks. In the field of waveguide architecture various geometries have been proposed and investigated for grating assisted or guided optical coupling for the purpose of designing all-optical switch, adddrop multiplexers, filters etc.

Paralel Model Kombinasyonu ve Yerel Öznitelikler Kullanarak Gürbüz Konuşmacı Onaylama
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2004) Tüfekçi, Zekeriya
Interfering noise severely degrades the performance of a speaker verification system. The Parallel Model Combination (PMC) technique is one of the most efficient techniques for dealing with such noise. Another method is to use features local in the frequency domain. Recently, we proposed Mel-Frequency Discrete Wavelet Coefficients (MFDWCs) [1] as speech features local in frequency domain. In this paper, we discuss using PMC along with MFDWC features to take advantage of both noise compensation and local features (MFDWCs) to decrease the effect of noise on verification performance. We evaluate the performance of MFDWCs for various noise types and noise levels. We also compare the performance of these versus MFCCs and both using PMC for dealing with additive noise. The experimental results show significant performance improvements for MFDWCs versus MFCCs after compensating the HMMs using the PMC technique. For example the MFDWCs gave 6.29 points performance improvement on average over MFCCs for 12 dB. This corresponds to 38.33% error reduction.
