Book Part Control Methods for a Teleoperated Endoscope Robot(Springer Verlag, 2019) Işıtman, Oğulcan; Dede, Mehmet İsmet CanIn this study, control of a endoscope robot for the pituitary gland surgery is presented. This co-worker robot has non-backdrivable actuation system with external brakes on the actuators. Since it is required to move in a constrained environment, which is the inside the nostrils in this case, modifications are required for the motion controller. In order to provide safe procedure, the maximum force and torque limits are defined for the real surgical case by using human cadaver head. In this regard, many studies focus on the strong relationship between energy and the environment. This study aimed to introduce the exergy analysis method into the urban planning field to find out the amount of exergy, rather than energy, that can be conserved in a building block when a solar envelope-based design is applied. In addition to the known energy-efficient design parameters, a criterion for the solar envelop method is integrated into a single method. This hybrid method includes taking into account the requirements for orientation, spacing, landscaping, and building form, as well as the building height properties as proposed in the solar envelop method. The solar envelop method depends on understanding the changing position of the sun throughout the day and year. If this dynamic behavior can be a factor in the design of an urban area, environmental friendliness, sustainability, and reduced energy consumption can comprehensively be achieved in cities.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 3Design and Simulation of a Novel Hybrid Leg Mechanism for Walking Machines(Springer Verlag, 2018) Demirel, Murat; Carbone, Giuseppe; Ceccarelli, Marco; Kiper, GökhanThis paper introduces a novel hybrid structure design that is composed of rigid links and cables for a robotic leg with static walking. The proposed mechanism is characterized by actuated hip joints, passive knee joints and an actuated prismatic foot joint. The foot is the moving platform of the proposed mechanism which possesses pure translational motion due to the passive parallelograms with cables. Kinematic analysis has been worked out for evaluating a typical human-like gait trajectory. A 3-D model has been developed and simulation are made in SolidWorks® environment. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism is able to perform an ovoid walking cycle of a foot point and the computed actuator torques and forces are in a feasible range for a low-cost and easy-operation design. The simulation results will be used for a prototype construction in a future work.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 11Thermodynamic Performance Evaluation of a Geothermal Drying System(Springer Verlag, 2014) Helvacı, Hüseyin Utku; Gökçen Akkurt, GüldenRenewable energy sources such as geothermal energy can be used in drying processes as a heat source due to the high energy costs of fossil fuels. In this study, geothermal cabinet type dryer was constructed and situated in Balcova-Narlidere Geothermal Field, Turkey where the clean city water of district heating system is used as an energy source for the dryer. The dryer was tested on site for drying of olive leaves and energy and exergy analyses of the drying process conducted under two cases: Case 1. Exhaust air was rejected to the environment. Case 2. A portion of exhaust air was re-circulated. Energy Utilization Ratio (EUR) was determined as 7.96 for Case 1 and 50.36 for Case 2. The highest rate of exergy destruction occurred in the fan, followed by heat exchanger and the dryer, accounting for 0.2913, 0.05663 and 0.0115 kW, respectively. Exergetic efficiency of the drying chamber was calculated as 89.66 %. Re-circulating the exhaust air decreased the exergy value at the outlet of the dryer from 0.1013 to 0.08104 kW, indicating that re-using the air increases the performance of the dyer.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 4Exergy analysis of food drying processes(Springer Verlag, 2010) Çolak, Neslihan; Balta, Mustafa T.; İçier, Filiz; Hancıoğlu, Ebru; Hepbaşlı, Arif; Erbay, ZaferIt is well known that micro-level system parameters may have some great impact on macro-level energy aspects, the environment, and sustainability. Of course, if one wants to approach these thermodynamically, there are two ways: energy analysis through the first law of thermodynamics and exergy analysis through the second law of thermodynamics. Exergy analysis is an essential tool to expose the impacts of a power generating device on exergy-based sustainability; sustainability is necessary to overcome current ecological, economic, and developmental problems (Dincer and Rosen, 2005). In this regard, some new exergy-based sustainability parameters for a PEM fuel cell have been developed and studied parametrically to investigate how they will help measure the level of environmental impact and sustainable development (Midilli and Dincer, 2009). These types of parameters may also be applied to other energy-related systems.
