The mission of the IZTECH Materials Science and Engineering Department is to carry out advanced research in applications of materials science and technology, education, teaching, production, publishing, and consulting. The vision of IZTECH Materials Science and Engineering is to become a renowned department in the matters of education, science, and technology in the world. Materials science and engineering is a field that intersects with all science and engineering branches. Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Program at IZTECH started interdisciplinary masters (1998) and doctorate (2008) education in line with IZTECH’s scientific research priority perspective. MSE Department was established in 2013 and rapidly grew since then. Undergraduate education started in the 2018-2019 academic year. By 2021, both graduate degree programs continued their activities under the department. In our English-speaking department, students are given a solid foundation in science and engineering so that they can develop skills for a wide range of careers in MSE. The curriculum, which includes current topics such as nanotechnology and intelligent materials, aims to train students as promising candidates for industry as well as research and development positions. Education, teaching and scientific activities of our department are conducted in the Science Faculty buildings, which consists of 1200 m2 closed space. Our academic staff, which is currently in the establishment phase, consists of 1 professor, 3 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, 13 research assistants, and 1 technician. The studies being conducted include necessary theoretical and experimental studies necessary for design, production, and applications of materials. Malzeme bilimi ve mühedensliği, fen bilimleri ile mühendislik branşlarının tümüyle kesişen ve iç içe var olan bir alandır. İYTE’de Malzeme Bilimi ve Mühendisliği (MBM) Programı, İYTE’nin bilimsel araştırma öncelikli bakış açısı doğrultusunda interdisipliner olarak yüksek lisans (1998) ve doktora (2008) eğitimine başlatmıştır. 2013 yılında MBM Bölümü kurulmuş, lisans eğitimine ise 2018-2019 öğretim yılında başlanmıştır. Eğitim dili İngilizce olan bölümümüzde, öğrencilerin kariyerlerini geniş bir spektrumda geliştirebilmeleri için sağlam bir bilim ve mühendislik temeli verilmektedir. Nanoteknoloji ve akıllı malzemeler gibi güncel konuları da içeren eğitim planı ile öğrencilerin gerek sanayi gerekse araştırma-geliştirme pozisyonlarına iyi birer aday olarak yetiştirilmesi hedeflenmektedir. Eğitim, öğretim ve bilimsel faaliyetlerini Fen Fakültesi binalarında sürdürmekte olan Bölüm, yaklaşık olarak 1200 m2’lik kapalı alanda hizmet vermektedir. Henüz kuruluş aşamasında olan kadrosu 5 öğretim üyesi (1 Profesör, 3 Doçent, 1 Yardımcı Doçent), 13 araştırma görevlisi ve 1 uzman’dan oluşmaktadır. Yürütülen araştırmalar, ileri teknolojilerde kullanılabilecek malzemelerin tasarımını, üretimini ve uygulamaları için gerekli kuramsal ve uygulamalı çalışmaları içermektedir. Bölümümüz alanındaki güncel gelişmelere odaklı, sayısı ve etkisi giderek artmakta olan güçlü akademik kadrosu ve cihaz altyapısıyla etkin bir çalışma ve öğrenme ortamı sunmaktadır.
