Effects of Crumb Rubber Size and Concentration on Marshall Parameters of Rubberized Asphalt Mixture
(2020) Almusawı, Ali; Doğaroğlu, Bora; Shakhan, Mohammad Razeq; Doğaroğlu, Bora; 03.03. Department of Civil Engineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
The depletion of natural aggregate sources which generally accounts for a huge percent of Hot Mixed Asphalts (HMAs) and the difficulty posed by disposal scrap tires are a major environmental concern for the future. The use of waste products like scrap tires in highway construction is considered a sustainable way of dealing with these issues. Crumb rubber is a material pulverized from waste polymer products like scrap tires which are then added to HMAs to improve their performance. This study focuses on the sensitivity of crumb rubber particle sizes (fine ?1.18 mm), (coarse ?1.18 mm and ?3.35 mm) (and mix of 50% fine and 50% coarse) and partial replacement (1.5 and 2.5% of total weight) of aggregates on the Marshall test parameters of rubberized asphalt mixes. The Marshall test parameters: density, stability, VTM, VFB of both rubberized asphalt and conventional asphalt samples were compared and also the Asphalt Institute (AI) and National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) methods were used to obtain the optimum bitumen content (OBC). From the results, it suggests that; the utilization of dry process methodology of adding crumb rubber additives in different sizes and percentages had a considerable effect on Marshal test parameters and also influences the optimum binder content estimates. The results of this study can be used as a reference point for the use of crumb rubber in HMAs.

Akıllı otopark sistemlerinde kullanılan araç tanıma teknolojileri üzerine bir inceleme
(Bandırma Onyedi Eylül Üniversitesi, 2022) Doğaroğlu, Bora; Doğaroğlu, Bora; 03.03. Department of Civil Engineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology

Comparison of Intelligent Parking Guidance System and Conventional System With Regard To Capacity Utilisation
(Elsevier, 2021) Doğaroğlu, Bora; Doğaroğlu, Bora; Çalışkanelli, S. Pelin; Tanyel, Serhan; 03.03. Department of Civil Engineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
The capacity utilisation of car parks is an important issue because of space deficiency for infrastructure improvement in city centres. Intelligent Parking Guidance Systems (IPGSs) provide a solution to such shortages by managing car park capacity. In this study, an IPGS model is proposed concerning the occupancy condition of three surface car parks, and the proposed model is compared with the conventional system (CS) where drivers tend to prefer the closest parking utility. A multi-agent-based simulation program investigates five scenarios and the results compared regarding the occupancy ratio, wasted Value of Time (VoT), and emission of harmful gases. The simulation results illustrate that the proposed IPGS model manages to equilibrate the capacity utilisation of car parks and the parking search period compared with the CS model. Analysis results show that emissions for CS of CO2, CO, HC, and NOx are 398.71, 19.90, 3.29, and 21.14 g/s/veh, respectively. This is attributed to the extra search period in the CS models. Besides, the cost of this extra searching period in CS is estimated in terms of the value of time for Turkey, Germany, U.K., and France as 0.49, 0.93, 1.42, and 1.42 euro/veh respectively. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd

Sifonik Yağmur Suyu Drenaj Sistemi Tasarımı
(Pamukkale Üniversitesi, 2019) Doğaroğlu, Bora; Doğaroğlu, Bora; Yurdusev, Mehmet Ali; 03.03. Department of Civil Engineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology

Investigation of Car Park Preference by Intelligent System Guidance
(Elsevier, 2020) Doğaroğlu, Bora; Doğaroğlu, Bora; Çalışkanelli, S. Pelin; 03.03. Department of Civil Engineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
In recent years, especially in developing countries, the number of vehicles has rapidly increased, leading to an increase in the demand for parking spaces. The most effective method to overcome this is to efficiently manage existing car parks. For this purpose, intelligent transportation system (ITS) applications have been used for facilities. In this study, the effect of guidance according to parking preferences on the utilisation of car parks with the support of an intelligent parking guidance system is examined. The preference and choice of car parks were modelled based on the observed data by developing a simulation program and testing the validity of the model. Subsequently, the effects of various parameters (e.g., parking fees, walking distance, and driving distance) on the selection of car parks, which have been ignored in the existing ITS, were included in the examination of the model. The results indicate that the driving distance and carbon dioxide emission, walking distance, and parking fees are reduced by 17, 14, and 1%, respectively. This study shows that system efficiency can be enhanced by considering additional car park preference parameters in intelligent parking system designs and management. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd
